an artistic eye

late naps + big ideas tend to delay a good night's rest so here i am. sometime back in the late nineties i painted a moroccan  pattern on a ceramic plate for my mom for mothers day or something. my neighbor, liz claflin, was at our house and saw what i made and commented on my color placement and how it showed that i had an "artistic eye". she was wise and beautiful and i loved her style so i knew i could trust her, but at the time i probably just smiled and shrugged it off.

fast forward fifteenish years and that little girl is now getting ready to apply to the bachelor of fine art photography program at utah valley university. art is tough because of its subjective nature and as an artist (feels weird using that word still) its easy to have a lot of doubts and questions and insecurities. in times like that its good for me to think back to my prepubescent days and remember what i have inherently inside of me. thank goodness for people who point those things out to you that you can remember for years to come.
